Auroville was a vision of Mirra Alfassa, a French woman who is fondly known as the ‘Mother’ of Sri Aurobindo Society. She envisioned a township where people from across the world of all cultures and traditions come and live together in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities.

This experimental township was originally intended to house 50,000 residents and currently, over 2,800 residents from 54 countries with two-thirds from India, Germany, and France live harmoniously here.

The aim of Auroville is to realize human unity. An epitome of tranquillity, Auroville proves as the perfect escape for those in search of peace.

The best way to experience Auroville is to just sit in one of the cafes and talk to some of the residents about their experience of living in this unique township.
